![]() There are two stand-out moments for me in this episode. Granted, it would be a location and ideal we revisit later on in the series. The big dissapointment of this episode would be that since the Amazonians are turned to stone for most of the episode, we aren’t given more insight into their world and their customs until the very end and even then it isn’t a ton to go into. You learn a ton about her including her power, ability, loyalty, nobility and even her grace in ultimate exile. Since it had to work within the context of a Justice League episode, there are of course several Leaguers running around, but they do a great job of keeping the focus on Wonder Woman. ![]() This was a fun look at Wonder Woman’s character while being a weak “origin” tale. ![]() Wonder Woman, with help from the Justice League teammates, must attempt to save Themyscira from an evil god. Instead of going back and trying to give her an origin episode, the creators do several Dianne-centric episodes, and the first of which goes more into her background and a better introduction of Themiscrya and its inhabitants. When we are first introduced to Wonder Woman, she leaves her home to join the heroes during the big alien invasion that kicked off Justice League, and she kind of becomes one of the characters in the show. Commercials deleted.Unlike Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman wasn’t given a traditional origins tale during the Timmverse run. Hippolyta looks on as Wonder Woman leaves with the Justice League. Thus Hippolyta reluctantly banishes her according to Themiscyran law, and Wonder Woman tearfully accepts her judgment. She also personally thanks Wonder Woman, but points out that she has defied Themiscyra’s highest law by bringing men to the island. Hippolyta holds a ceremony honoring Wonder Woman and the Justice League for their role in defeating Hades and restoring Themiscyra. They go back up to the surface and discover how to restore the amazons by exposing Faust’s amulet to sunlight. He nearly takes both Hippolyta and Wonder Woman with him, but she manages to pull her mother to safety before the gateway closes. While Hades goes after Hippolyta, Wonder Woman destroys the key, causing Hades to hurtle back into the gateway. During the struggle Faust manages to cast a single spell, harming Hades and causing him to assume his true form, that of a hideous demon. Their attacks prove to be ineffectual, and Hades summons a legion of zombie warriors to aid him. Wonder Woman charges in and frees Hippolyta as Hades attacks them both as the other members of the Justice League join the battle. Faust asks Hades to grant him his request of “ultimate knowledge” in exchange for freeing him, but Hades betrays him, using his powers to rapidly age Faust into senescence. Hades appears and is glad to see Hippolyta again, although she is disgusted by him. Faust uses the key to open the gateway, with Hippolyta chained up nearby. Wonder Woman leads the others to the depths of Themiscyra, where the portal to the underworld is located. In the ensuing struggle Faust manages to grab the key and Hippolyta and teleport away. The Flash saves them and J’onn, Superman, and Batman also emerge and fight Faust. She demands that he restore Hippolyta first, and he does so, but then attempts to petrify both her and Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman returns to Themiscyra with the assembled key and presents it to Faust. However, Wonder Woman notes that if they do, the amazons will remain statues forever. They deduce that Faust intends to use the key to release Hades, and Superman warns that Wonder Woman cannot give him the key. As punishment for aiding him, Hippolyta was charged with watching over the gateway to the underworld, located beneath Themiscyra the relic they have been assembling is the key to opening that gateway. In the ensuing battle, the gods eventually prevailed and banished Hades to Tartarus for all eternity. To that end he tricked Hippolyta into opening the gates of Mount Olympus to the Titans. Wonder Woman explains that eons ago, her mother fell in love with the god Hades, who attempted to betray his fellow gods to their enemies, the Titans. His latest journal entries make mention of Tartarus, a section of the mythical Greek underworld. Batman explains that Faust was once an archaeology professor before his obsessions with magic and the occult discredited him in the academic community he used magic to take revenge on his fellow scholars. They, J’onn, and the Flash convene at Faust’s office, filled with occult books and paraphernalia.
